The outstanding contribution to Crime   Stoppers made by Constable Linda   Burns of the Greater Sudbury Police   Service was recently recognized when   she was nominated for the International   Crime Stoppers Coordinator of the Year   Award.

When you think of the word Integrity you   think Cst. Linda Burns; there is no grey.    It is either right or it is wrong.  Cst. Burns   models what she believes in.  Her values   are a part of her character, not something she puts on when it is useful. She establishes a climate of trust and mutual respect wherever she works. The officers who use our tips respect her and understand that she is one of a kind. She creates an enthusiastic work environment; builds co-operative work relationships, inspires commitment and builds a sense of pride, trust, respect and purpose into any group she works with.  She is often consulted by her peers and is always willing to help and share her expertise and her knowledge.  She is genuine in word and action and is happy to provide recognition to team members for their contribution. She values others input and is always willing to learn.

You always know what to expect from Cst. Burns – excellence.  She has high expectations of herself and of  those around her. She believes in the Crime Stoppers Program and demonstrated that every day, working in the office, doing presentations, attending photo opportunities, working at public awareness events, attending fundraising events, attending board and committee meetings and talking Crime Stoppers every chance she got.  She demonstrates a willingness to “roll up her sleeves” and put in the extra effort to get things done. She thinks outside of the box and constantly comes up with new ideas to promote Crime Stoppers

Cst. Burns has an excellent rapport with law enforcement officers and is highly respected in the Service.  She also established an excellent rapport with all forms of media.  During her reign as coordinator the media were very good to Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers.

Cst. Burns has a “way” with tipsters.  She is confident and callers trust her. She is interested in the callers and it shows in her voice.  She talks to them in a friendly, non judgemental way.  They know that she appreciates their call and they want to help her solve the crime.

Cst. Burns has recently left Crime Stoppers (officially) to become a full time Seniors Liaison for the Greater Sudbury Police Service.  Despite the fact that she has a full time job elsewhere she still takes after hours calls when the answering service cannot reach a coordinator and still makes herself available whenever possible to answer questions from the two new coordinators.

The Board of Directors of Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers is grateful for the contribution of Cst. Burns to the amazing success of our Program during her tenure.  Her energy and dedication rekindled a passion for the Program even on the Board of Directors.

In July of 2008 under her watch, Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers was awarded the Marla Moon Memorial Award of Excellence by the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers, in no small way due to the efforts of Cst. Linda Burns.
