Sharon Marunchak has been an integral part of Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers since its inception in 1987.  She was one of the founding Board members and has been giving unselfishly of her time and talents for over 21 years.  In that time she has served on the executive as President and Secretary, sat on numerous committees, overseen a variety of initiatives and has represented Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers on the OACS (Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers) Board of Directors.

Crime Stoppers Board members are expected to donate about ten hours per month for meetings as well as to sit on at least one committee and to help with the organization of at least one major Crime Stoppers’ event.  Sharon goes well above and beyond the call of duty. Her contributions to the Program over the last 21 years have been outstanding and numerous.

In 2007, Sharon was a member of the Executive of the local Crime Stoppers’ Board in the position of Secretary.  As the Secretary, she diligently attended all Board meetings to make sure that everything was in order and sent out minutes for the meetings in a timely manner.  Sharon never missed a monthly meeting. She is the Chair of the Policy & Bylaws Committee and a member of the Nominating Committee (to review resumes and interview potential Board members) as well as the Finance, Tri-Force Regimental Ball, Website, Public Awareness, Fundraising, Police Agreement, Tendering Process, Dragon Boat and Corporate Sponsors Committees.

Sharon’s intimate knowledge of the Crime Stoppers Program, coupled with her years of experience makes her invaluable at Board meetings and planning sessions when Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers is making important decisions or long term Program plans. She does not impose her experience, but offers a knowledgeable opinion when requested or provides direction when the Board loses momentary focus in a meeting or planning session.  Her ability to maintain focus during a meeting is a terrific time saver.

Sharon’s valuable contribution to our Board of Directors is vital to its success.  She is very well respected by her colleagues on the Board, and her passion and commitment for our Program as well as for Crime Stoppers serves as a role model for all other Directors.   She holds high expectations of the Crime Stoppers Program and has the same expectations of her fellow Board members.

Throughout the year Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers organized and participated in numerous events, fundraising initiatives, program development and new initiatives.

Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers old website was in dire condition and had not been updated in years.  Sharon put in countless hours developing each page in the new website and worked closely with the company that created the site to ensure that her vision was completed as instructed and produced a very functional site that can be used by anyone.  She continues to monitor the daily upkeep of the site to ensure that it is always up to date and contains information that is important for our community to be aware of.

On November 1st, 2007, Sudbury experienced its first Amber Alert.  Sharon was in the office when the news broke and worked long into the night to ensure that Crime Stoppers reached as many people within the community as possible and that the website contained the most up to date information.

Sharon oversees the development of each Newsletter that Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers creates.  She ensures that it contains information that is helpful for the reader as well as highlights our newest sponsors and important news about Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers.

Over the past year Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers has seen two new coordinators and one new office staff person join the team.  Sharon is always willing to offer her assistance and knowledge and has made the new staff feel welcome and confident in their roles.  This would have been quite difficult if Sharon hadn’t made herself readily available and would not have resulted in such a smooth transition.  She was able to completely revamp the filing systems and reorganized the office to run more efficiently. Sharon ensures that everything that goes out of the Crime Stoppers office is consistent with the standards and values of Crime Stoppers.

With each of these roles she has shown such an enthusiasm for every task she takes on that has resulted in our Program benefiting from the awareness and funds raised so that the necessary monies for our rewards are never in jeopardy.

She unselfishly spends as much time as it takes to complete every task/project that she undertakes.  In 2007 she donated well over 2,000 hours to the Program and continues to volunteer for more committees and spend countless hours ensuring that Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers continues to succeed in achieving its mission.

Sharon leads by example.  Her leadership, dedication and enthusiasm for Crime Stoppers is infectious and makes everyone on the team want to achieve the goals of the organization.  She encourages people to stretch and accomplish new and bigger things.  Her passion is the engine that drives the program and results in Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers continuing to grow and succeed each year.

Sharon is a community leader who shamelessly works for and promotes Crime Stoppers.   Wherever she goes, and whatever she does, she continually speaks about the merits of the Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers Program and proudly represents the Board of directors.

It would be nearly impossible to think of a nominee who has worked harder or is more dedicated to any Crime Stoppers Program than Sharon Marunchak.

Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers would not be the successful Program it is today without Sharon Marunchak.  She has had a tremendous impact on Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers through her positive influence and continued dedication to the Program.  Her kind personality, friendly disposition, attention to detail and incredible experience make her one of the most valuable Board members Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers has ever had.  She is most certainly a most worthy recipient for the Crime Stoppers Civilian of the Year Award - 2008.
