The Greater Sudbury Police Service is currently investigating a suspicious vehicle complaint from January 28th 2010, at approximately 3:00 p.m.  The driver, of what is described as a “small black SUV or Crossover-type vehicle”, stopped and spoke with a 12-year old as he was walking home from school, in the area of Brenda St. in Sudbury.  When the boy advised he was almost home, the vehicle drove off – the boy continued walking to his house and advised family members.  Officers were dispatched, attended the area though the suspect vehicle was not located.  

 

Driver Description:
Sex: Male
Race: Caucasian
Age: 30 - 40 years old
Clothing: Baseball cap & Sunglasses
Other Features: No facial hair 

 

The vehicle can only be described as a small black SUV or Crossover-type vehicle.  The motive is not known at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

 

Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division are interested in speaking with the driver of the vehicle in question to determine his reasons for approaching and speaking with the youngster.

Preventative tips:

* Children should never approach a vehicle they do not recognize or
  engage in conversation with someone they do not know.

 

* If a child feels threatened in this kind of situation, they should
  scream and yell in order to get the attention of people nearby. 

 

* Parents should discuss “Safe areas” with their children – these would
  include places situated between the child’s school and residence,
  and where the youngster will feel comfortable attending in the event
  he / she is too far from home.

 

* Whenever possible, youngsters should walk with friends when going to
  school and back.
