On June 18th, 2008, at their 57th Annual   General Meeting in Niagara Falls, Chief Ian   Davidson of the Greater Sudbury Police   Service was sworn in as President of the   Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police for   the upcoming year.

“This is a very exciting time in policing and   I look forward to working with my   colleagues, government and communities   in tackling a number of priorities”, said   Davidson. Top on my agenda is to gain the   commitment of government to address the   issue of court security services and the associated costs that have escalated exponentially since 1992 when court security responsibilities were transferred to municipal police services."

The Chief went on to say, “additionally, I am committed to working with Minister Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services and Ontario’s Attorney General Chris Bentley in developing strategies to more effectively manage the criminal justice system. A number of new initiatives have recently been announced that will start to take effect in the near future and will lead to greater efficiencies.”

Chief Davidson is also committed to working with Minister Bartolucci to develop an equitable formula to distribute the federal funding for policing in Ontario

Present at the ceremony were Greater Sudbury Police Services Board Chair Dr. Rayudu Koka and Vice Chair Councillor Ron Dupuis.“The Board fully supports the Chief as he takes on this leadership role,” Dr. Koka stated.

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police also officially announced that Sudbury will serve as next year’s Conference Host from June 21 to June 24, 2009. We look forward to having police leaders from across the province join us to discuss “Globalization and the Impact on Public Safety”.
