The Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) has announced the appointment of Allan Lekun to the position of Deputy Chief of Police. 

Dr. Rayudu Koka, chair of the Board said, “Allan Lekun shares the Service’s vision and is highly committed to our community. The board has the utmost confidence in his abilities and has seen him grow within the organization over the past several years. We congratulate him on his success and look forward to having him assume his new role on the executive team.”

Throughout his career, Lekun has demonstrated a high level of commitment to the Greater Sudbury Police Service and to the community. He brings a wealth of professional experience and credentials to this position

Lekun is in his 20th year of policing. He was initially assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division, following which he became a member of the Tactical Team, Training Branch and the Criminal Investigations Bureau. Additionally, he has held supervisory and management assignments in all areas of policing, having served as the Executive Officer to the Chief of Police. Most recently, Lekun has been with the West Nipissing Police Service where he assumed the role of Acting Chief of Police.

Deputy Chief Lekun holds a Master of Business Administration and a BA in Law and Justice from Laurentian University.  He has also completed a number of specialized police courses and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Program.

Chief of Police Frank Elsner acknowledged Lekun’s strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, which have been an asset to the various areas he has served.  “I have worked closely with Al during the past two and a half years and we make an excellent team. He is committed to providing quality policing in partnership with our community. I very much look forward to working closely with him in the coming years.”

In his spare time, Lekun is actively involved in the community. He is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Joe MacDonald Youth Football League and Assistant football Coach for the Sudbury Spartans and St. Charles College High School.  He is a member of the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers and has been a participant on many fundraising committees, including Cops for Cancer, the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival and the Canadian Lung Association, Pull for Kids.

Deputy Chief Lekun is married and has two daughters.
