January was officially designated as Crime Stopper Month by Crime Stoppers International in Edmonton, Alberta in 1986 and since that time has been recognized by world leaders in more than 20 countries.
In Ontario, Premier Dalton McGuinty praised Crime Stoppers saying the program has been instrumental in bringing together the community, the media and the police in the fight against crime. “Crime Stoppers has played, and continues to play, a vital role in building safer, healthier and more vibrant communities”.
Sudbury and surrounding area has been no exception. On January 9th 2007, Mayor John Rodriguez signed a proclamation declaring January as Crime Stoppers month in our community. The declaration was presented to Dick Stewart, President of Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers by Deputy Mayor Ron Dupuis.
